How they use Cloudflare

The platform heavily utilizes Cloudflare Workers as a protective layer of its API. This helps decide when to fetch the stored data versus accessing the original source for information. Workers was used as a distributed computing solution, allowing for flexible scaling of resources to meet unpredictable demands.

All image generation and user uploads are stored in Cloudflare R2, where API payloads and datasets are fetched via R2. KV and Durable Objects were replaced by Cloudflare D1 for newer workloads, providing a faster and more cost-effective solution for caching authentication and implementing custom rate limiting logic.

Workers AI is used for image generation and classification models. The model employed auto-generates an image based on the trending topics on social media and sentiments based on the classification model. The “What’s Up?” section provides an AI generated summary created with Workers AI. After testing out the prompts on multiple models and platforms the team found Workers AI provided fast responses and cost savings.

The platform leverages a React Native stack called Expo that allows them to run a single code base deployed to Pages and enables continuous deployment for both web and native apps. Cloudflare acts as a core CDN, facilitating quick deployments while also serving as a protective layer to manage traffic flow.

Additionally, the platform utilizes Web3 to collect extensive data through the Polygon and Ethereum offerings, uses load balancing for health checks to ensure the web and API origins are available for DNS queries, and utilizes Cloudflare’s Zero Trust and Tunnels to secure connections between load balancers and origins. Zero Trust allows them to put up their compute instance with an encrypted tunnel that safeguards requests.

Why Cloudflare?

"No egress fees is a big advantage, as surprise costs from surging traffic can be annoying. As a startup, one has to be careful about surging costs for DDoS or viral traffic, but with Cloudflare, these worries are eliminated. Thanks to Cloudflare, startups don’t need to scale up dramatically or set up their own servers. This results in significant cost savings and eliminates the need for their own infrastructure."
